Stamford is one of the most photogenic towns in England, and I spend my working weeks photographing the homes in and around it.

I’m Carl Bingham, a Stamford property photographer working with estate agents, letting agents and short term rental hosts across Stamford, Rutland, Oundle, Bourne, Grantham, Peterborough and the wider Northamptonshire area. I’m based in Kings Cliffe, so most of the villages I shoot in are a short drive from home.

My career has always come back to property. I started out in senior roles at Homeviewpoint, Wales’s largest property marketing firm, then went on to run Google 360 national operations with a large team of photographers. That taught me how great property media is produced consistently, at scale and on deadline. I then went freelance, shooting property among other work, before moving into international motorsport at Formula 1 and Formula E events, where you get one chance at a shot and no second take.

After that I launched Apex Stays, my own short term rental business across Stamford and Kings Cliffe, which I still run today. Now I’ve brought everything together under Carl Bingham Property Presentation. So when I photograph a holiday let or serviced apartment, I look at it the way a host does. I know which images make a guest press Book and which ones get scrolled past.

So why a blog?

Every shoot comes with its own story. It might be a tight cottage kitchen in a Rutland village, a country house near Oundle where the drone shot made the listing, or a grey morning in Bourne that needed patience. I’ll share one or two of those stories every week: what the property was, what the challenges were and how we got the result. If you’re an agent or landlord in the area, my aim is for every post to leave you with something useful.

Here’s the first tip. A lot of the homes in this part of the world are built from local limestone, and that stone changes character completely with the light. On a flat grey day it can look dull. In low sun it glows honey gold. Before you book a shoot, check which way the front of the property faces. East facing homes are best photographed in the morning, and west facing homes in the afternoon. It costs nothing, and it can be the difference between a listing that gets scrolled past and one that gets the viewing.

Every shoot gets the same care, whether it’s a two bedroom terrace in Peterborough or a country home in rural Rutland. That covers photography with drone as standard, video, 360 tours, floor plans and social content.
